That certainly looks like you think there are facts of the matter about whether or not D3 is cartoony. Well, for a start, this discussion actually started back on page four, when you told me that it was silly to deny that D3 is more cartoony than D2. I think that if you're going to argue that D3 is more cartoony than D2, it behooves you to engage in that discussion of what it means for something to be cartoony, and then point to the objective features of the game that, in your opinion, satisfy those criteria.

You've given a few examples, like character proportions or physically impossible moves, and naturally my response has been to point out that D2 also had stylised, animated characters, who also made heavy use of physically impossible or acrobatic moves, from Multi-Shot to Whirlwind to the assssin's martial arts. 'Cartoony' is not a subjective judgement like "I don't like it". You are just repeatedly saying "it's more cartoony" without making any effort to explain or justify that. Repeating "it's cartoony" without explaining what that means or what you'd like to see instead is not helpful. Thus I am asking you also: what choices in D3 did you disagree with, and what choices do you think D4 should make?

I think that most of the time when I see "D3 is too cartoony" or "D3 isn't dark enough" arguments, the demands they make for future games are incoherent or unwise. I read you as saying that D3 involved some creative choices you disagree with, and as wishing for D4 to make different choices. What do you mean when you say 'cartoony'?Ģ) When you criticise D3 for being 'cartoony', there is an implied description of a problem and a suggestion that it change.

That was the point of all this discussion, these pictures, the comparisons of different scenes and characters in the game. I have been trying to get you clarify what you mean by it, what you think is 'cartoony' about D3 that wasn't 'cartoony' about D1 and D2.
